iReady: Students in Grades 1-5 are taking the iReady Fall Assessment in Reading and Math this week. They will take iReady assessments again in January and May. Results from iReady assessments help determine how school staff can best support each child’s learning in reading and math.

Visitors: The following information details protocols for visitors in all Tacoma Public Schools buildings. All visitors during school/work hours are required to:

• Enter through the main entrance.
• Sign in at the main office.

Cell Phones: Students may not use cell phones at school. Please see the Tacoma Public Schools Board Policy regarding the use of cell phones at school. Policy Details Page - Tacoma Public Schools

Snacks & Toys Stay at Home: Please do NOT send toys, pop, gum, large bags of chips, and full-size candy at home.

Heating Student Food from Home: We cannot heat food that students bring from home.

• Fall Conferences – Dismissal at 12:15pm - Tuesday, October 20, Thursday, October 22, Friday, October 23
• Pastries with the Principal - Wednesday, October 21 from 9:25 a.m.- 9:55 a.m.
• Fall Family Night - Thursday, October 29 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
• Recognition Assemblies for Safe Behavior - Friday, October 30: K-2 from 1:50 - 2:20 p.m. & 3-5 from 2:30 - 3 p.m.

Arrival Procedures: Students enter the building off the bus or through the front gate. We open the gate at 8:55am. Families say good-bye at the gate or the door. Students walk themselves to class, or school staff can walk students to class.

Dismissal Procedures: Students go home on the bus or by family pick up on the playground. We open the gate at 3:30. Students must be picked up on the playground by a guardian.

Changes to Student Dismissal: No changes are made to dismissal after 3pm. 3 Busing: If your child is taking the bus, you will need to sign them up online. Vision and hearing tests start soon
This fall, our school will conduct vision and hearing tests during the school day for students in kindergarten and grades 1, 2, 3, and 5. If further care is recommended, our school nurse will send referrals home; they can also support families by finding follow-up resources. If your child is in a grade not on the test schedule this year, you may request vision and hearing tests. Questions? Contact our school nurse, Annette Bunker at (253) 571-4902. These exams are required by state law.

After school program reminders
If your child participates in Beyond the Bell we are thrilled to welcome them to the program! Here are some reminders that will help the day run smoothly:

• Please pack a snack for your child to have during their after-school program.
• Please be sure to pick up your child by 5:20pm.
• Have you completed the CNEEB application? If not, please do so by Oct. 1. It could help reduce your fees for session 2 of Beyond the Bell.

Have you completed the CNEEB application? I’m asking all families to complete the application before Oct. 1. It's used to help decide how money is distributed across the school district, including our school. It can also impact families directly by reducing fees for athletics, before and after school programs, and college applications.
